Picture
Looking into the cooled and opened anagama kiln after a three day firing. The aim of firing for this length of time is to build up flashing and ash effects on the (often) unglazed surfaces of the pottery. The atmosphere in the kiln is carefully controlled over this time to (hopefully) enhance the colour.
